ivyology: (too many able fires)

So our heat stopped working. Most people in southern Pennsylvania would probably take this in stride. It is October after all. But it is actually 37 degrees out, and I am always cold anyway.

Christine and I went to Valley Forge today. For three dollars we got to walk around in Washington's headquarters. You are jealous, I know. We meant to spend more time walking the trails but the wind was crazy fierce, so we ended up driving most of it, which was just as well. The real highlight was the insane number of deer that were just, like, hanging around, completely docile, utterly unfazed by passing cars and people, like us, walking up to take their pictures, not because we'd never seen deer before but because there were really just that many, and it was really just that weird.

Actually it made me kind of sad. That they were that used to people, and cars, and flashing cameras. It didn't feel right. Christine pointed out that at least in the park they're not being hunted. I suppose that's true. And they have adapted, and seem no worse for the wear.

Still.

I went to the school's Red Mass Friday night, which was actually pretty cool. I usually forget about Villanova's Catholic affiliation, after the obligatory Orientation speeches on the school's "Augustinian character" were past and I stopped noticing the crucifix in every classroom and got used to seeing our dear law school friar, Father Denny, who takes our Contracts class. But I've always wanted to see what a mass was like, and I was not disappointed. Plus most of the religious ideology gets translated into the pursuit of truth and justice, which I can certainly get behind.

As underwhelmed as I am with the majority of the Villanova Law School student body, I truly love the staff and faculty. With the exception of awkward architecture and too-small-for-the-student-body nature of the law school building, there's really nothing I don't like about the school.

Happily (I think) I'm up-to-date with three of my five substantive class outlines, which is a big deal if you're familiar with how law students prepare for exams. I'm confident I can get the last two done in the two weeks left before we get our graded open memo assignment (which will monopolize the first half of November) and should be in pretty good shape to spend the latter half of November finishing them up.

It feels a bit like the calm before the storm, really.

Everyone has probably seen this already, but in case you've been living under the same rock I've been happily occupying, go to google.com, type in miserable failure and then hit the I'm feeling lucky button.

Ha.
