Back to school. Very nice weekend rounded out my vacation, though - I went to my mom's, and my sister came up, as it was my mom's birthday Saturday. Syracuse beat UConn Friday night (yay!) and then West Virginia Saturday night to be the Big East Conference champions, which is probably only exciting to me. And other native CNY-ers. And now it's tournament time. Few things make me more homesick for New York than a good SU game. Particularly the memory of this day.
My Mondays are always a nice transition into the school week, just two classes of the shorter 50-minute variety. (Last semester all my classes were 50 minutes. I miss last semester.) However, all of those ridiculous "blizzard"-related class cancelations are now being rescheduled, which adds another two classes to my week. Tomorrow I will have Torts twice. I am so very ready for this year to be over.
My mother and I are taking a short vacation in Western North Carolina before my internship starts. We're staying in Asheville - a compromise, as I wanted secluded mountains and hiking, and she wanted nice restaurants and shopping. Anya went to school in Asheville and loved it enough to want to move back there - and, a New Hampshire native, she said the landscape was much like New Hampshire. (Except warmer, I imagine.) Which is endorsement enough for me.
Spring is nearly here and I am itching to grow things. Last year I grew all kinds of herbs from seed - it was great. But last year I had steady direct sunlight for the majority of the day. Here, I have a first-floor, partially-blocked southern exposure. We get nice direct sunlight for about 3 hours. I do not have the money to invest in grow lights. Anything I try to grow would, I fear, be most pathetic.
Melissa Ferrick is playing a cheap outdoor venue in King of Prussia the day after my birthday. Christine has kindly agreed to accompany me. Melissa Ferrick + live = a very, very happy birthday.
I miss the Iron Horse.
I am in a quandary. I know it will be even more humid here than the already humid summers I'm used to. And hot. I am totally embracing the young urban professional look for the length of my internship. I'm just afraid that will mean going back to antiperspirant. Since I switched (love love love the Liquid Rock!) I find I am incredibly disturbed by the thought of clogging up my sweat glands. I have no problem with some sweat. On the other hand, I'm not sure *mass quantities* of sweat - which humid summer days will certainly produce - really go with the whole urban professional look.
I am very lucky to have such shallow dilemmas.

Too bad about the plant situation. Do you have any plants at all? I can't imagine you being without plants! I just bought an African Violet and an ivy and they are quite lovely!
And I know what you mean about the deordorant situation. When I was working in DC during the summer I gave in and used antiperspirant. It was unfortunate but it makes sense when it is so damn hot and all your office clothes are dry cleaning only!!

Also (this one is pretty random) - purchase a box of baby wipes, and keep them in your desk or purse. At different times during the day, you can go into the ladies room and use the baby wipes on your underarms, etc. It's really nice way to cool yourself off and freshen up the mass quantities of sweat. That way, you might be able to keep from going back to antipersperant. Hope that helps. ;)
