One thing that is guaranteed to make my blood pressure rise is an ignorant diatribe against the evils of anti-depressants.
Because, you know, they were just made up by greedy pharmaceutical companies and are perpetuated by vacant-eyed prozac zombies. And because we shouldn't expect pills to solve everything, don't you know, we should just be more self-disciplined and eat better and smile more and what the fuck ever and this will somehow magically rebalance the seratonin and norepinephrine levels in our brains. And because maybe a few (but just a few!) people are "legitimately" depressed and if they show me their depression creds I'll let them pass but all of the rest of those slackers just want an easy fix, and doctors are greedy, and they over-prescribe, blah blah blah SHUT UP.
Look, I'm not saying that anti-depressants shouldn't be taken seriously, or that I don't wish the health care industry were different and everyone could afford to work closely with a psychiatrist who understands the differences between the many anti-depressants out there and can help make sure you're getting the right one, and that you're on it for only as long as you need to be on it. But sometimes "as long as you need it" will be a very, very long time.
Anti-depressants aren't right for everyone, but I really wish people wouldn't take a flying leap across the chasm of logic into the conclusion that this means anti-depressants aren't right for anyone.

But - I know that antidepressants did save both my and my father's lives (he's still on them, I'm not) and that a little anti-psychotic is certainly required by one of my aunts to keep her this side of CRAZY.
They are really really essential for those who need them. But, I think that they cause more problems than they solve for others, and some people just abuse them.
