In case you haven't noticed, I like television. Mostly, it's that I have a serious thing for storytelling, and the awesome thing about tv is that it gets to go on and on, the characters get to breathe and grow, there is room for exploration that just isn't possible in a standalone format like movies and novels. Also: pretty. The pretty helps.

I'm anxious about the impending writers' strike, I'll admit it. I dread a big gaping black hole in the middle of my tv season. I'll admit I don't even know why they strike's going to happen - I'm just selfish! Give me my tv!

The new shows I tried out this year:
Gossip Girl, Bionic Woman, Reaper.

What I'm for-sure sticking with:
Gossip Girl. Oh, the love I have for this show. It's a beautiful thing.

Still on tivo, but could get the axe any day:
Bionic Woman. There are elements I enjoy and that's why I'm still watching, but something still isn't quite gelling. I'll give it a few more episodes to really win me over.

Never really had a chance:
Reaper. Fun premise, but it's on at the same time as House, and nothing's going to usurp that from my lineup, and it says something that I wasn't wowed enough by the first two episodes to keep seeking out new ones online.

Returning shows - network:
Heroes, NCIS, House, America's Next Top Model, Supernatural

Returning shows - cable:
Stargate Atlantis, Blood Ties

Very satisfied with so far:
NCIS, House, Supernatural, Blood Ties

NCIS - I only started watching NCIS a few months ago, but I did mainline all four past seasons and wow do I love it. It's one of the few procedurals I doubt I'll ever get sick of, because the characters are just so very wonderful and make even the less-exciting plots feel fresh.

House - House loves Wilson. That would've made the season a winner all on its own. But I've really enjoyed where the show is going so far this season, and less Cameron = YAY.

Supernatural - my fears about the new recurring characters proved baseless. Katie Cassidy looks eerily like a young Virginia Madsen, making it impossible for me to hate her. Mostly they've been sticking with what I loved about the first two seasons, and avoiding what I didn't, so I'm happy.

Blood Ties - really the second half of the first season, but it's airing along with the rest of the regular-season shows so it gets included. This show is low-budget and it shows (and apparently Lifetime could care less about its success; airing it on 11pm on Friday night? Seriously?) and if I had any shame I might be embarrassed to admit how much I love it, but we all know I don't, so there: I love it. Mostly for the characters, who are so awesome I want to squish them, but most of the storylines manage to seem fresh despite mostly being retreads of classic sci-fi/fantasy tropes (but that's true of most sci-fi/fantasy stuff out there, so). Also: vampire. If I had to call any of the shows I watch an addiction, it would be this one.

Have mixed feelings about so far:
Heroes, Stargate Atlantis

Heroes - I've covered most of this already, so I won't rehash too much. I do actually think all the storylines are going somewhere, and I've been more reassured by this the past three episodes, but some of the threads are just dragging on way, way too long (Japan, Peter, stupid twins, Claire). Also, since I am a big fan of dysfunctional, codependent brother-relationships (see also Winchester, Sam and Dean), it hurts my soul having Nathan and Peter separated, Nathan (sniff!) believing Peter to be dead and Peter not even knowing Nathan exists! (except for the picture he now has of the two of them).

Stargate Atlantis - I'm one of the many fans very unhappy with the cast changes, and it's really impacting my love of the show. I mean, as long as the show has David Hewlett I'll watch, but I loved Elizabeth and find Sam Carter to be a completely perplexing replacement (enjoyed her just fine on SG1, but it makes no sense that they'd replace a civilian expedition leader - when such a big deal has been made over the past seasons about the fact that it is primarily a civilian-led expedition - with someone so entirely military. I never really cared about Carson, and I actually usually like Jewel Staite, but so far Keller doesn't impress me at all, and I absolutely cannot buy someone who looks as young as she does as chief medical officer. I'm usually very good at suspending disbelief, but this is too much for me. Eh.

And then finally there's ANTM - which, well, is ANTM. What can you really say about it? It's a pure 100% guilty pleasure.
