foggy mondays & other novemberisms

I'm so unwilling to raise my hopes for ANYTHING that I'm not even going to link to the rumors of positive things coming out of the reconvening of talks between the writers and the AMPTP.  I'll cross my fingers and knock wood, but that's because I'm compulsively superstitious (I have this theory that superstitions are kept alive by people with some degree of OCD).

I will say that I think it's fascinating that the AMPTP has fared so poorly in terms of public opinion, when common sense would've had me assuming the average uninformed American television viewer would be happy to blame whoever's most directly responsible for taking away their tv (which would be the striking writers, since no one put a gun to their head and MADE them strike).  Has the WGA just had a more successful PR campaign?  Is the shrinking middle class increasingly pissed off by money-and-power-gorged corporations?  It's kind of a perfect venue for that specific ire - for how  many wage slaves is one of the highlights of the weekday the fact that at the end of it, they get to escape for an hour or two into a good story?

Just idle curiosity.  Anyway.  Heroes tonight!  And, well, Chuck, since I finished catching up yesterday and I'm totally sold, although the last episode left a bit of an icky taste in my mouth since I really, really cannot stand Rachel Bilson, which I suspect is a bit of an unpopular opinion based on my perception of her popularity on The O.C.  But honestly, she, way more so than Mischa Barton, was why I could never really get into The O.C. despite the incredibly homoerotic undertones of Ryan and Seth's relationship.  (Spellcheck is insisting that homoerotic isn't a word - fff!)  But no, I think she's a terrible actress and also an annoyingly mumbly one.  And I say this as someone with an unfortunate tendency to mumble.  But no one's paying me to act, either.  On the plus side, Yvonne Strahovski is AWESOME, and makes a character that could've been unfortunately clichéd really, really wonderful.  (I hate that I'm so much harder on female characters - but really, it's more that they're just so often POORLY WRITTEN and it's so, so frustrating.)

But, yeah, Heroes.  I'm holding on to my pessimistic belief that I'll get a three-second Petrelli brothers reunion next week and then hiatus, but I'll try to enjoy it anyway.  *Is long-suffering*

I, also, am not holding my breath. I'm actually debating whether or not AMPTP agreed to go back to the table just so they could look better in the public eye, without having any interest whatsoever in giving any ground. There's more pressure on WGA to accept a lesser deal if they lose the public's support, and this may be AMPTP's way to undermine that. Fascist, greedy, corporate bastards. I don't trust 'em. I'm willing to wait months, nay, I'll even say six months, for the writers to get a solid, reasonable deal.

Woo Chuck! :) *fistpump*
