OMG TORCHWOOD WTF

WHAT??

I spent large chunks of 2x05 finding sweet&dorky!Owen unbearably adorable; then, in 2x06, giving in around halfway through and deciding well, fine, I hated him in S1, but apparently his character growth this season is genuine and around to stay, and then I was all OWEN/TOSH OMG THE CUTEST EVER and THEN, THEN!

Like, I know he can't be permanently dead (right? RIGHT? this is sci-fi, RIGHT?) but, oh, my heart! *cries*

Um, other thoughts.

2x05:

IANTO! You are, um, sorta hot as a serial killer, and I need therapy. Also, THANKS for the heaping doses of manly emo pain, they were very appreciated. However, could we maybe find out SOMETHING about your past OTHER than that you were in love with Lisa? I mean REALLY.

Tosh: I can't talk about Tosh. It'll turn into a long tangent on how often sci-fi shows use sci-fi tropes to create situations where women are effectively raped in subtle (but not really) ways and how much it PISSES ME OFF, and Torchwood, this is NOT THE FIRST TIME YOU'VE DONE THIS, you are ON NOTICE. At least the show ACKNOWLEDGED it this time, kind of, but it's sad that this what I have to work with as reassurance.

Gwen: I really, really, really love Gwen/Rhys, and it sort of breaks my heart, because there's no way that's ending well, and I really don't get why it's necessary for Gwen to be in love with Jack. It was easy enough for me to take when it seemed more like it was infatuation - like, Jack's shiny, and larger-than-life, and they're all infatuated to some degree, and I get that. And Jack loves them ALL back - and oh, how I loved that scene near the end, where he SHOWS it so BEAUTIFULLY and it made me CRY - but this out-of-nowhere (imho) TWU WUV crap kind of makes me want to hurl. It makes me dislike Gwen, which isn't fair, since most of the time I like Gwen, but those moments feel so awkward and forced. Also, hi, bias, I can acknowledge you: if there's going to be TWU WUV, damnit, and honestly I don't think there really should be, it should be IANTO/JACK HELLO, YEAH, THANKS.

Owen: I just wanted to snuggle you and pet your dorky hair and steal your dorky cardigan YOU ARE SO AWESOME.

Jack: Please, please, PLEASE stop making JB do Big Dramatic Scenes. He kind of sucks at them. But, as I said, there were places in this episode Jack was absolutely amazing, was the Jack I tend to always believe he is under the pretty character he likes to project, the Jack whose loyalty and compassion (but also resolute pragmatism) is unswerving.

2x06

HI MARTHA! I love you even more when the DW writers aren't assassinating your character by making you be all irritatingly swoony over the Doctor!

I already covered the OWEN, OWEN/TOSH, OH NOES OWEN!! part of it all. And that's kinda all I've got. Plot-wise it's not their best, imho, but character-wise it made up for it, so. Also, I won't lie, I giggled like crazy when Ianto described Jack's, um, bedside manner as "innovative . . . bordering on the avant garde" and then, ahahahaha, that brief little faraway LOOK, oh, show, you kill me. (And wouldn't it be HILARIOUS if, really, Jack's like totally vanilla by 51st century standards?)
