(Catch-up Sunday = spam lj to death!!!)
SUPERNATURAL. JESUS. You're in league with TW to break me, aren't you?
I am sosososo glad the strike is over because I LOVE TELEVISION YAY TELEVISION.
Last week when I saw from the previews that this week was going to feature the always-classic Groundhog's Day trope, I was THRILLED. I love sci-fi tropes in general - I would be dubious of any sci-fi fan who didn't - but of them all, that's my favorite. Except for bodyswap, maybe. And WOW do I want to see this show do that.
(And speaking of previews - omg NEXT WEEK!!!!!)
So tropes, yeah, I love them. But there are tropes and then there's using the trope as a framework for something so much bigger, and good god this show went there and it went further and it completely blew away even my high expectations. Episodes like this - and in my book, this is one of the show's best ever, but that in no way means that the show is not usually of really high quality - are what make me really, seriously sad that more people don't watch. Of course it's not for everyone - it can be a bit gory at times, and and the horror-film conceit that's on its surface just won't be to everyone's taste - but god, this show is about so very much more, and of course people don't know that because it's not packaged that way (when it's packaged at all, god, CW, DIE DIE DIE).
I mean, OBVIOUSLY I love this show, I rave about it every single week, I meta about it at way greater length than I usually meta about anything, and sometimes I feel like it was created JUST FOR ME because it's everything I could ever want in an hour-long tv drama. And maybe one day it'll disappoint me - or maybe it won't even get a chance to, because the CW will be an ass and cancel it - but it hasn't so far, and for all that I analyze it way more than any other show, to the extent that I could easily have it ruined by my own expectations, it still ALWAYS surprises me in the best possible way.
And oh, god, Sam, Dean, just, BOYS. They're so richly and consistently characterized. They love each other so much, and it's totally needy and dysfunctional and screwed-up but that's what I like best. And the minor characters who are no less incredible - sorry, Bela, I can't include you - Bobby and Ruby and Henrickson and Gordon and Ellen and Jo and Yellow Eyes and Meg and Ava and Andy and John, of course, that sad bastard who did so much wrong but still did the best he could, and did the only thing he could, in the end - I love them all just as much.
Just. Best show ever. No lie.
So I still have other stuff to catch up on, but I'm pretty sure my heart can't take any more.
