The camera in my Sidekick is 1.3 megapixels or something ridiculous like that. Needless to say, most pictures taken with the thing are crap. A month ago, though, I went home for my grandfather's funeral, and took some pictures on the way, and was kind of delighted by the weird color and lighting effects the camera decided to create for me in a few of them:

Heading toward a rainstorm.

inviting

This sort of thing is typical of my homeland (i.e. The Sticks).

color

I love how the purple just sort of took over everything.

The rest of these are only interesting for historical purposes:

nostalgia

Down that road is my high school. And my sister's high school, and my brother-in-law's high school, and my father's high school, and in a few years it will be my nephews' high school. (My mother's high school is a few towns over.)

where the cool kids go

Wendy's was way cooler a place to hang out than, say, McDonald's. Because those were our choices. Dunkin' Donuts, of course, is where you go at two a.m. when everything else is closed.

hell

That Rite Aid used to be an Eckerd. I worked there. The Fajita Grill was a Taco Bell then. It has also, if I recall correctly, been a pizza place and a cell phone store (I know, what were they thinking?)

I'd love to be able to say ooooh it's autumn! but since tomorrow it's going to hit ninety I think that would be premature. This has to be the last time, though, right?

In anticipation of autumn though I have been nesting, or really de-nesting at this stage, as it has all been about getting rid of the clutter that has accumulated in my three years in this garret. Clearing out closets and cupboards and drawers, whittling out the unwanted, it's remarkably freeing and I love thinking about getting it all done and getting everything shiny and clean before I go west (three weeks!) and coming home and having it be mid-October and homey and lovely. It's a soothing thought.
