surely some revelation is at hand -
Reading the paper is better than watching the news, yes, but it feels apocalyptic all the same.
Biological agents, chemical warfare, what they call "the poor man's atomic bomb". Lovely thought. There's been a run on gas mask purchases. I should be scared, I think, and sometimes I am. And then I realize I have absolutely no fucking control over the events of this unravelling b-movie melodrama of a screenplay the world is following line for line. I've seen this movie before, all five thousand variations of it, and I suspect this particular title is at the low end of the quality scale.
I'd rather watch X-Files and Buffy reruns on FX; they do the apocalypse with ten times the flair. I'd rather rent the Mad Max movies. I'd rather read T.S. Eliot in all his morbid glory and memorize "The Second Coming". (I, for one, lack all conviction, though I do not believe myself to be among the best.)
And the ceremony of innocence is drowned.
Life imitates art, and in this case, life is a five year old copying Van Gogh with crayons.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world
Wow. That was a beautifully insightful and poigniant post. I'm bad at compliments, but I wanted to let you know that you rock, for whatever it's worth.
Re: Turning and turning in the widening gyre
(And have I mentioned how much you rock, too?)
It's good to hear from you - I've missed reading your entries. I hope you're having a wonderful semester - and if you need any advice at all on your Smith apps, or have any questions, please do let me know! I'd love to help you out.
