I had this lovely little energy kick going, but it seems to be gone now. Alack and alas, but it was nice while it lasted. But oh lord, am I an addict. I usually bring a diet coke with me to my morning class, but I'd forgotten we were meeting in the Rare Book Room. Suffice to say, I was not caffeineted while looking at various editions of Frankenstein, and it felt like red ants were crawling around in my head.

Another two viewings later, and I'm even more enthralled with the musical. It was just fabulous on so very many levels. That it worked at all is a testament to the show; any other show out there would have made a fool of itself. But it did work, and it worked very well.

I thoroughly expected it to be a pleasing, entertaining, enjoyable, but ultimately throw-away episode. But it wasn't throw-away at all, and that is probably what impressed me most. The songs were actually quite good, there were a few impressive dancing scenes (I liked the one with Dawn and the demon the best - MT clearly has a decent background in dance - and the Anya/Xander number was delightful on every level) and most of the cast, I was surprised to discover, can sing fairly well. ASH and Amber Benson were clearly the best trained, and they both have lovely voices. They should sing in every episode. SMG has a sweet, pretty, if rather thin voice, but she held her own. James Marsters and Emma Caulfield both had pleasant enough voices, and NB had the can-carry-a-tune, and-not-much-else, but-will-make-up-for-it-with-sheer-charisma thing going. (AH can NOT sing, and Michelle didn't sing enough for me to judge.)

Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable. And did I mention the kiss? (Or should I say tonguemashing? Because that was really what it was. "Kiss" is far too tame a word.)

And that demon really kicked ass. I want him in every episode, too.

I am hungry. And tired. And cold. Must do something about that.
