watch the stars now moving 'cross the sky
I saw a shooting star tonight. It's been years; since I was a child, in fact. Which seems rather fitting, all things considered.
Everything I could write about my job, working with kids, the way they've already filled and broken my heart a dozen times, would only be empty words, nowhere close to what I feel.
I shouldn't have favorites, didn't even think it possible in only a week, and I'd never dream of making it obvious in any way, but I must confess I do. Did. Ten-year-old Mariah, sweet and intense and focused, stole my heart. She gave me two hugs goodbye today, and I came home and cried.
This job is hard, but not for any of the reasons I'd imagined.
In addition to regular work hours, there's been of course training all week as well, and I'm tired as hell. I've made friends, though, probably only because in my whining to my mother about the whole ordeal I vowed I wouldn't. She said I would. Fate always conspires to make my mother right. It's irritating.
Tomorrow there is more training, dear god, and then I get to see Joy, finally. Eventually I may sleep, but we'll have to see.
