Fever-heat, all day outside. We set records here today.
It did not rain, despite the distended bloating of the sky. I sat with my mother on the glider for an hour, and evening rolled in early and the wind played shadowboxer with the trees. We grinned with the thrill of it, my mother and I. "When it finally rains, it'll all come down," she said. "Yes." But we did not go inside. We waited, but it did not rain.
I am throwing away the days, swimming through molasses toward where I want to be. Someday I will regret this thoughtless waste, I know. But not now. Now I will close my eyes, stiffen my heart, and finish what I've begun.
Surely some revelation is at hand.
